The Only Way to Move

Fred was working as a signal maintainer helper in Alny Montana for Bill Zimmer (“A strong moose of a man”) to make ends meet while Annabelle (his wife) was living down in Bonners Ferry; she did visit him on the weekends. The job ended and he had to move back to Bonners but only had a car so he borrowed a trailer from Mr. Tompkins (Leo’s father in law). Little did he know that the trailer didn’t have springs in it and it was a bumpy ride between the two towns. Well he and Tommy Lafaye loaded the trailer up with all of Fred’s possessions and hit the road.

They were cruising along at about 50 mph when they hit the first big bump and heard a loud crash behind them. Tommy spun around in the seat and exclaimed, “Fred, you just lost your stove!” They pulled over to the side of the road and got out to have a look but the stove was in no state to be used. Tommy started to pick up the silverware that had been strewn about the freeway when Fred very calmly turned to Tommy and said, “That’s ok, we’ll get it when we get back”. They kept driving and of course hit another bump and off went the swing rocker. Things continued in this fashion (Hit a pothole, the bed goes spinning off into a ditch. Run over a big rock and the truck relieves itself the burden of carrying the dresser.) Of course once they pull up to the house in Bonners and look in the trailer, there is nothing left in it.

He did offer to help me move into my condo but I politely declined. :)
