Grandpa’s Tales

Jeff November 14th, 2006

I have been spending a lot of time with my grandparents recently, trying to get some of their stories written down to share with future generations. The stories on this page are about my grandpa Fred (my dad’s dad). He grew up in Bonners Ferry Idaho and spent his days hunting, ‘hitching’ rides on trains to work, and of course… walking to school uphill both ways in a snowstorm. ;)

When you listen to him talk you can almost see the memories in his eyes as he leans back and with a knowing smile, recounts events that happened over 50 years ago as if they happened yesterday. He lived in a time and place where people still said hello to strangers walking down the street and left their houses unlocked in case the neighbors needed anything. He has lived more adventures in one life than many people live in ten. He has seen world wars, survived the great depression, and raised a truly loving family. He loved his wife, he loves his kids, and he loves their children. He is truly a standout member of the greatest generation and it is an honor to be able to call him grandpa.
