Competition for Designers?

It is getting easier and easier for someone to put up a website that doesn’t know a div from a header tag. Wonder if being a web designer will be a hard market to be in after a few years?

Jeff,
I’ve noticed your trackback on mashable, and wanted to just point out that the designers are not dead yet. We actually work with many of them, helping them take advantage of all these new technologies and offer more competitive services to their clients. Before SiteKreator they were building a design for every client in PhotoShop, then someone was doing the HTML/CSS and then someone was doing the back-end coding in PHP or whatever and then host it someplace hoping it won’t hang under load. Now they create one or two design, we put them on SiteKreator, and they can customize them for each specific client just using their browser. When the design is ready — it comes with all the interactive features like forums, blogs, newsletters, members ares, etc without any coding and it’s hosted on a high-performance distributed hosting and the customer can update the content on the site anytime.
So there is a shift in the design industry, but I’m sure there will be plenty opportunity in a few years as the total demand for on-line presence is constantly growing…
