The Da Vinchi Code

Having just read the book about a year or so ago,I decided to rent the movie to see if it lived up to all the hype and publicity it generated. Maybe its because (having read the book) I knew what was going to happen through out the whole movie, but I didn’t think it was very good. I thought the acting was average, especially for the two big name actors in the movie in Hanks and McKellen. One good thing about having read the books was that if I hadn’t, I think I would have had a bit of trouble following the movie as some of the plot lines were poorly incorporated into the movie. (Aringossa was noticeably absent from most of the film.) The one person whom I thought did a great job was Paul Bettany as Silas… holy cow was he freaky! Although when I read the book, I pictured him being a bit bigger than Paul is in the movie.
However, and maybe this is why I couldnt get into it, watching the movie reminded me of the biggest problem I have with the whole idea of the book: that Jesus was just a man. My big problem is that IF he was just a man and IF he did marry Mary Magdalene, then what is the big deal with her? That would make her a woman that married a guy who was a “good person.” Nothing special at all. So why all the codes, trickery, etc?
